Description

2005 Porsche 997 Carrera

“ A nice example, that's been well looked after and had all the important work done. ”This one ticks all the right boxes, including those marked ‘IMS’ and ‘RMS’.

BackgroundWhen the 997 first broke cover it was greeted with loud sighs of relief from Porsche fanatics.

The 996 had somewhat annoyed the 911 stalwarts with its ‘fried egg’ headlights and general similarity to the ‘lesser’ Boxster.

The 997 reverted to the ‘bug eye’ appearance of the 993 and classic 911s.

Looks aside, the 997 bristled with new technology, evolved chassis dynamics and enhanced engine performance, making the 997 generation a driver’s favourite once more.

The 997 is generally split into two phases, the first lasting from launch in 2004 to 2009; a facelift and power hike delineating the second phase, which lasted until the end of 997 production in 2012.

First generation 997s like this fine example have become relatively more affordable as time’s gone on, helped largely by the fact that it’s still, to date, Porsche’s best-selling 911.

A first-rate initial MoT pass rate of 85% indicates that these well-built machines also age well.

OverviewThis 997.1 Carrera Coupé has been very fortunate throughout its life because it has always been diligently (and expensively) maintained, serviced, repaired, fettled and kept in excellent mechanical health by main dealers and specialists in a timely and methodical fashion.

It’s fine state of preservation – dynamically, mechanically and aesthetically – is impressive even for its very reasonable mileage of just 76,000, let alone its 21 years of carefully curated life.

The vendor believes that he is just the third owner of the car from new and he has been the car’s keeper since 2017, or 23,000 miles ago.

The car starts, drives, handles and stops with all the ability and competence that’s rightly associated with the model and the marque.

There are no creaks, rattles, whistles or clunks to detract from the sonorous soundtrack of the flat-six behind you, and everything feels as well-screwed-together and over-engineered as we’ve come to expect and admire from the Meister Technikers of Zuffenhausen.
