Description

Chassis No. WP0ZZZ91ZKS152438To celebrate both the 25th anniversary of the 911 and the final year of the beloved G-Model, Porsche unveiled the limited-production 1989 911 Speedster as a striking tribute to the original 356 Speedster and a bold statement in its own right. First previewed as the Speedster Studie at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production version retained the concept's raked wraparound windshield, double-hump clamshell tonneau cover, and exciting minimalistic character. Though based on the Carrera 3.2, most Speedsters were constructed using the Turbo's wider bodywork, giving the car an aggressive stance accentuated by Turbo-width 16-inch Fuchs forged alloy wheels. Power came from Porsche's 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six, mated to the refined G50 five-speed manual transmission delivering a visceral top-down driving experience. Chief designer Tony Lapine ensured the styling carried cues from the 356 while remaining true to the modern 911 form. This particular Speedster sits in a class all its own. Not only is it a very desirable 1989-only Speedster, but it was built new with the unusual and very elegant narrow bodywork, which was completely unavailable in the U.S. market. In fact, of the 2,104 Speedsters built that year, only 171 cars featured these narrower bodies, frequently delivered to France and Switzerland. This constitutes merely 8 percent of total production! This particular car was delivered new to Sweden (Code C09), where its rarity was further compounded by its extraordinary specification, as it was finished new in Linen Grey Metallic over a Linen leather interior with a beautiful dark blue soft top. Other options assigned to the car included the shorter shift lever for the G50 transaxle (243), Blaupunkt Bremen cassette-radio (328), left and right sports seats with electrical height adjustment (383 and 387), sports shock absorbers (474), and alarm system (533).It is understood that the car remained overseas with its original owner before importation in 2023. In fact, the car currently shows only 741 kilometers (≈460 miles), and its cosmetic condition is commensurate with this incredibly low mileage. From the paintwork to the upholstery and engine bay, the car is simply extraordinary in every respect. Any Porsche 911 Speedster from 1989 is an exciting proposition-however, a narrowbody in an otherwise-unseen color combination with ultra-low mileage is truly a rarity that demands close attention from Porsche enthusiasts.
